A Bit About It

Uncle Gordon entrusted me with a family tree. Old as you and me, and all the neighbours’ in the nearby village combined. I marvel at the thought of it. Growing in this climate. Then there's yours, in all its glory. Next-doors, too. A forest for picnics and pauses.

My pulse tests healthiest when I return to this place. Grounded.

Not many generations ago, a creation not much different in size to a beach ball changed everything, didn’t it? Sputnik. Then there was II, launching a little barker named Laika into orbit.

I think about Time. Before the wars, before we could write. Was there bliss?

Grandma, a certified Saint, lived through a lot of change. Privately, she would self-shame sometimes, for she could-not read. Yet, blessed was she with a remarkable ability to see. Nobody hurt for long in her sight.

A Lighthouse for a lady, sized under Five Feet, a beacon of how to be. Daily. That’s G-Ma in shorthand.

Once every now and then, she'd recite a tale about taking a left turn, despite the soundest advice and pleas of most close connections. If she hadn't followed her gut, my Grandad would have been named Les, and my Mother, Brother and I wouldn't have existed at all.

Naturally, I wasn't present when this most tremendous human was a teen, or a child, surviving, yet somehow I cannot begin to forget it. Physically and technically, it is an impossibility for me do so.

Cuts to Explorer I, proud at my desk, full of fibre and gigafast advancements. I can’t quite make it round the world in ninety eight minutes yet, nor do I wish to. It is though a categorical miracle to be breathing during each of these moments we share, and I hope you enjoy your day even if you don't enjoy reading about what I enjoy scribbling. You, do, you. Whistle when you want to. And, I will carry on drawing. Me.

* for now, I am piecing my techno-puzzle together. As previously rambled in another description, if you’ve any questions, answers, heckles or hellos, the kettle is still boiling and I’m here all week: welcome@oneman.land
